The Daily Mail published a doctored photograph of a veiled woman in an inflammatory story about Muslims (6 Pics)

The Daily Mail newspaper published a doctored image showing a woman in more extreme Islamic dress than she actually wore to illustrate a controversial story about Muslims.
The Mail illustrated its coverage of five-year-old white Christian girl fostered to a Muslim family in East London with an image of a woman wearing a niqab veil, which covers almost all of the face.
Reporting of the case, uncovered by The Times but covered widely in the UK press, has prompted accusations of damaging political correctness on one side, and Islamophobia on the other.
However, the photograph is a doctored version of a stock image available online, which shows a woman wearing a hijab, a variant of Islamic veil which does not cover the face.
Here is the page, followed by the original image:
The image was carried as part of a front-page report in the paper's August 29 edition. It appeared on page 6, as part of coverage of the paper's lead story, which was headlined: "MPs' ANGER AS CHRISTIAN GIRL FORCED INTO MUSLIM FOSTER CARE."
The image was also published online, but later removed and replaced with a pixellated version of the stock photograph. A tweet by the Daily Mail still showed the original doctored image on the afternoon of August 30

The stock image does not show the foster mother, or the child, which the Daily Mail made clear. They have since published a heavily blurred image of the mother and child, which they say does show them.
