'She manipulated him!' Woman reveals her mother-in-law went behind her back and made her husband secretly change their son's NAME while she was recovering from her C-section

A new mother revealed how her mother-in-law convinced her husband to secretly change their son's name behind her back while she was recovering from a C-section.
The bombshell story was sent to Slate where a woman nicknamed 'Mama Bear' asked for advice from the publication about what she should do regarding the name change that happened while she was recovering from giving birth.
'My son is two-months-old, and I just discovered my husband spelled our son’s middle name as “Finlay” instead of “Finley” on all of his legal documentation,' the letter began.

She continued: 'I, of course, am furious, because I told him I was fine with the middle name but it had to be spelled Finley—and he agreed before our son was ever born.'
The woman revealed how her mother-in-law sent a Christmas gift with the child's name spelled 'Finlay', and her husband let her keep believing the birth certificate had the correct spelling of 'Finley'.
'I discovered this all when I went looking for his Social Security card and birth certificate to file them away properly,' the new mom wrote. 'He says he regretted it as soon as the card came and has been afraid to tell me.'
But the situation got worse as the husband revealed he was 'guilt-tripped' by his mother to change the middle name without consulting his wife.
'Apparently his mother guilt-tripped him into doing this while I was asleep after my emergency C-section,' the letter continued.
'Keep in mind she lives a few states away, so this was all over the phone. She tried to convince him to give our son a first name that I very much hated, saying that I would “get mad, but get over it.”
'My husband thought changing his first name was too much but apparently gave in to spelling his middle name the way his mom wanted. She thinks that “Finlay” is more masculine than “Finley".'
The new mom then called her mother-in-law a 'manipulator' saying the attempt to change her son's name was 'disrespectful'.
'She manipulated my husband into thinking it was all right to lie to me about something as serious as the spelling of our son’s name,' she wrote.
In the letter, the woman admitted her husband was also at fault for thinking it was OK to change their child's name without discussing it and said the name would be legally changed to what it was supposed to be.
But the new mom also wanted advice on how to deal with her mother-in-law.
The response to the Mama Bear letter pointed out how the biggest issue was with the husband's inability to see the problem of doing everything his mother says.
'He’s got to decide if you are his co-parent or if his mother is,' the publication wrote. 'And until he makes that decision, he can’t be trusted. Period.'
Ultimately, the response letter suggested the new mom actually avoid a confrontation with the mother-in-law because it would probably only yield more problems.
It suggested that if the woman felt she had to respond, to say: 'Whether you let or encouraged your son to go behind my back and change the name of our child, it was an extremely sh***y thing to do. You can rest assured that I will remember it for a very long time.'
But it remains unclear if the Mama Bear writer decided to actually confront her mother-in-law about the situation.
