Congressman Announces Ninth Baby, Wife Says ‘We’ll Take AOC’s Carbon Footprint For Ourselves’

While the Left suggests forgoing children to save the climate and argues for abortion up to (and slightly after) the moment of birth, conservatives appear to be taking up the slack.

In their most recent podcast, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) and his wife, Fox contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy, announced they were expecting their ninth child. My former Washington Examiner colleague Paul Bedard wrote that Rachel joked on the podcast about having another child in the wake of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s suggestion that people stop having children due to climate change. “We’ll take AOC’s carbon footprint for ourselves,” she said.
Rep. Duffy also announced the baby on Twitter, writing, “God isn’t done with our family yet! Baby number nine coming to the crew this fall! @RCamposDuffy said it best - we aren’t crazy, we are just full of hope for America’s future!”
Duffy himself joked about the number of children he will soon have, telling his podcast listeners, “I’m hearing a lot of references to baseball teams.” As Bedard wrote, Duffy’s parents had 11 children.
Campos-Duffy later joked that the family was “helping to keep the human species going.”
“We’re also doing our part to bring in the Republican vote, hopefully, to keep these anti-socialist messages going and the Hispanic Republican vote, which you know we need to do that,” Campos-Duffy, who is Latina, added.
In response, Duffy said: “I think we own that now in Wisconsin. The Hispanic, conservative vote is driven by our family.”
The AOC reference dates back to February, when the freshman congresswoman said on an Instagram live video that children’s lives would be “very difficult” due to climate change, The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra previously reported.
"Our planet is going to hit disaster if we don't turn this ship around and so it's basically like, there's a scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult," Ocasio-Cortez said. "And it does lead, I think, young people to have a legitimate question, you know, 'Is it okay to still have children?'"
In that same video, Ocasio-Cortez suggested congress needed a “sense of urgency” to combat climate change.
“Like, we need a universal sense of urgency, and people are like trying to introduce watered-down proposals that are frankly going to kill us. A lack of urgency is going to kill us,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez helped produce a proposal that would be incredibly expensive and damaging to the economy while doing almost nothing to actually stop climate change. Not a single senator – Democrat or Republican – voted for the proposal. It has not received a vote in the House of Representatives.
