Unreal: Leftist ‘Comedian’ Renames Black Man with Racial Slur for Daring To Speak Against Reparations

Liberal tolerance has become a bit of an oxymoron. For decades, the left has tried to stand on a self-built moral high ground while painting the right as hateful bigots. Progressives are just more accepting, kind, open-minded and tolerant, or so the narrative went.
But many on the left are now showing their true faces, and they’re far less kind than their rhetoric would have you believe. Case in point: A liberal comedian and writer for HBO just publicly used a racial slur against a black man because he dared speak out against reparations.
On Wednesday, writer Coleman Hughes of Quillette Magazine testified before Congress about the prospect of paying reparations to black Americans like himself, some 150 years after the end of slavery. In an impassioned and smart speech, the African American columnist made his stance known.
“Black people don’t need another apology,” Hughes said as cameras rolled. “We need safer neighborhoods and better schools. We need a less punitive criminal justice system. We need affordable health care. And none of these things can be achieved through reparations for slavery.”

He was just getting warmed up. Pushing a message of unity as Americans instead of animosity based on race, Hughes sounded wise beyond his years as he dismantled the push for reparations.
“Reparations by definition are only given to victims, so the moment you give me reparations, you’ve made me into a victim without my consent,” he said, according to MRC TV.
“The question is not what America owes me by virtue of my ancestry, the question is what all Americans owe each other by virtue of being citizens of the same nation. And the obligation of citizenship is not transactional. It’s not contingent on ancestry. It never expires, and it can’t be paid off,” he continued.
Can somebody please make this required viewing for today’s youth? It’s frankly brilliant and a refreshing point of view at a time that perpetual victimhood seems almost in vogue.
But not everybody was a fan of the independently-minded Hughes. The same day, HBO writer Rae Sanni went on a hateful tirade against the speech, going so far as to use a clearly insulting racial term from her verified Twitter account.
“It’s okay, just for today, to call Coleman Hughes a coon,” the “A Black Lady Sketch Show” writer tweeted. “He’s arguing against reparations on Juneteenth. He’s Cooneman Hughes till midnight Pacific Standard time.”
Yes, nothing says “tolerance” quite like hurling racial slurs at a young black man who thinks for himself and has a different opinion on an issue. So accepting. So open-minded.
Twitter removed the tweets for being in violation of its rules, a representative told The Daily Caller
The term “coon,” of course, has a long and bleak history as a pejorative for African Americans, especially one seen as a traitor to his race.
“The coon caricature is one of the most insulting of all anti-black caricatures,” Ferris State University explained. “The name itself, an abbreviation of raccoon, is dehumanizing … The coon caricature was born during American slavery.”
How’s that for irony? By stooping low and using this ugly slur from the time of slavery, Sanni showed that she was the one stuck in the past, while the man she tried to insult was trying to move forward and turn a new page for black Americans.
Once again, the sham of “liberal diversity” has been exposed. So many on the left — Sanni apparently included — don’t actually want true diversity, which would mean truly respecting a variety of viewpoints and opinions.
The “offense” that made Hughes a target of slurs was simple: He didn’t repeat leftist talking points and spoke up for himself and his own thoughts as an intelligent, free man. That doing so triggers slurs and attacks from the left should be very revealing but frustratingly, it isn’t very surprising.
