Mike Pompeo mocked Nancy Pelosi's State of the Union response with a 'Simpsons' meme, but it probably doesn't mean what he thinks

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took a swipe at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's State of the Union address response with a "Simpsons" meme, but he may not have known the context behind it.
President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address Tuesday night, the day before Congress was to vote whether to convict or acquit him on two articles of impeachment — one charging him with abuse of power and the other with obstruction of Congress.
In December, Trump was impeached largely along party lines by the Democratic House majority led by Pelosi over claims he had corruptly pressured Ukraine to investigate his political opponents. Trump has maintained he has done nothing wrong and is widely expected to be acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate.
The president and the House speaker had not spoken since a meeting in October. Tension between the two seemed to bookend Tuesday night's speech, starting when Trump snubbed an attempted handshake from Pelosi and ending when she responded to the conclusion of Trump's address by tearing up a copy of it, much to the ire of the GOP.
Pompeo responded to Pelosi's action on his personal Twitter account with an image of Lisa from "The Simpsons" crying while ripping up a piece of paper.
The meme showed an image from a 1991 episode of "The Simpsons" in which Lisa took a trip to Washington to learn about the meaning of democracy. The meme captured Lisa when she's upset after seeing a politician accepting a bribe. She ripped up sheets of paper, which turned out to be her essay titled "The Roots of Democracy."
Pompeo most likely unwittingly alluded to the scene with his tweet of the "Simpsons" meme.
Lisa went on to give a revised speech to her school after her visit to Washington, DC, referring to Washington with Trump's favored name for the district: a "swamp."
"The city of Washington was built on a stagnant swamp some 200 years ago, and very little has changed," she said. "It stank then and it stinks now — only today it is the fetid stench of corruption that hangs in the air."

  1. Childish is as childish does...Go Figure...

  2. That's what the Democrats are worried Trump will do. Drain there swamp. And the payola will dry up. That's what all this Trump bashing is about. Greed.
