Local media outlets reported that Mendoza was previously arrested with six other individuals by the Quinta Roo state police and public ministry police on August 5.
The group was being investigated for a series of crimes which included attempted murders and unlawful possession of firearms.
However, Mendoza was ordered released by a local judge due to the lack of proof to tie him to any of crimes.
