Boy, 17, dies in Maryland police custody after stabbing himself in the neck while in a car with his mom, attacking her and trying to force his way into passing vehicles when she pulled over for help

A 17-year-old Maryland boy died in police custody over the weekend after stabbing himself in the neck and attacking his mother while riding in her car.

The Prince George's County Police Department stated that officers were investigating an unrelated car crash at Indian Head Highway and Livingston Road in Oxon Hill just after midnight on Sunday when they were approached by a woman covered in blood, who told that her teenage son was trying to kill her.

She claimed her son, later identified as 17-year-old Anthony Percy Lujan, was in the car with her when he began to act erratically, stabbing himself several times with an unspecified weapon, according to a press release from the police.

Officers found Lujan, covered in blood, running in the street trying to force his way into passing vehicles.

Police stated that after initially complying with the officers, Lujan 'became aggressive and started to attack the officers.'

The officers were able to physically restrain the teen only after deploying a Taser against him.

After taking Lujan into custody, officers discovered two large puncture wounds on his neck. The 17-year-old then became unresponsive 'at which point the handcuffs were removed and life saving measures were given,' according to the press release.
