Cuban film star Broselianda Hernandez, 56, is found dead on shoreline of Miami Beach in suspected drowning after 'going out to buy cigarettes'
Celebrated Cuban actress Broselianda Hernandez, who worked for nearly three decades in television, theater and films, has been found dead along the shoreline of Miami Beach following a suspected drowning.
Hernandez, 56, had been living in Miami for the last five years after an entertainment career in Cuba that got off the ground in the 1980s, authorities said.
The medical examiner's office had not yet determined the cause of death, but police said they believe Hernandez drowned and do not suspect foul play.

A passerby reported seeing the woman's body on the beach near 79th Street

Local10 video showed first responders removing Hernandez's body after wrapping it in a tarp
A witness called police at around 6.30am on Wednesday after finding a woman's body near the shoreline in the vicinity of 79th Street, said Miami Beach Police spokesperson Ernesto Rodriguez.
Video from the station Local10 showed the moment first responders arrived at the beach and covered the woman's body with a yellow tarpaulin before removing it from the scene.
Officers and firefighters later identified her as Hernandez. Her family said she had gone out to buy cigarettes late Tuesday but never came home or returned calls, local news outlets reported.
Hernandez rose to fame with Cuban soap operas in the 1990s such as When Water Returns to Land, which earned her an acting award, and Women of Honor.
In 2010, she played the mother of Jose Martà in a biopic of the Cuban independence hero, MartÃ, the Eye of the Canary.

Hernandez's final film, The Companion, came out in 2015, around the time of her move to Miami.
Cuban President Miguel DÃaz-Canel sent his condolences to Hernandez's loved ones Thursday on Twitter, saying 'farewell to an exceptional actress named Broselianda. We mourn her early loss.'
Cuban singer Liuba Maria Hevia posted on Instagram that she 'will never know how to say goodbye' to Hernandez.

In a 2010 interview with the Spanish-language news outlet Cuba Debate, Hernandez described herself as 'very bipolar' and struggling with moments of depression.
'Sometimes I feel eighty years old,' she told the interviewer as she talked about her battle with mental health issues.
Hernandez is survived by her grown daughter, Sofia, her life partner and her elderly parents.
