General brought in by Nancy Pelosi to review MAGA riot security said Capitol Police were 'complicit' and called Republican Josh Hawley a 'piece of s**t'

Retired Gen. Russel Honore said Capitol Police and top security officials may have been 'complicit' in the Capitol riot and went after two Republican senators who sought to overturn election results, in comments that are drawing pushback as he conducts his security review.

Honore, who gained a national reputation as he took control of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, was named by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to conduct an immediate review of Capitol security following the Jan. 6th MAGA riot.

Days after that attack he said Capitol Police may have been 'complicit.' Since the riot footage has emerged both of Capitol Police seemingly doing nothing as hundreds of Trump supporters breached the Capitol – and struggling heroically against a mob that has revealed to have been armed with poles, hockey sticks, zip ties, bear spray, and tactical gear.

Retired Gen. Russel Honore said a security review may find 'complicit actions' by Capitol Police, and tweeted after the Jan. 6th riot calling Sen. Josh Hawley a 'piece of s***'  who should be run out of DC and Disbarred ASAP'

'I was surprised that the Pentagon did not have those troops on standby,' he told MSNBC after the incursion. 'The FBI had a major failure in their intelligence.'

'I think once this all gets uncovered, it was complicit actions by Capitol Police.'

He also said a probe must determine whether former chief of the Capitol Police Steven Sund himself 'was ... complicit along with the sergeant at arms in the House and the Senate.' All three of those officials resigned following the riot. "It gives appearance of complicity,' he said.

Fox News reported on his comments and Fox prime time host Tucker Carlson brought up Honore's comments about Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley – even including Honore's comment calling Hawley a 'piece of s***' in a graphic while Hawley spoke.

Honore tweeted about Hawley five days after the riot in a now deleted post: 'That little piace of s***with his @Yale law degree should be run out of DC and Disbarred ASAP.'

He then tagged Hawley and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, adding: 'These @Yale and @Harvard law grads is high order white privilege.'

He was responding to a call by some lawmakers to expel Hawley from the Senate for his role in the events of Jan. 6th, when Congress met in a joint session to certify the electoral college votes.

His tweet was a response to Harvard Law professor Lawrence Tribe, who wrote that Congress should expel members who supported the riot.

Hawley was famously photographed making a fist to protesters outside the building before the riot occurred, although he condemned the violence afterward even while defending his objection not to count millions of votes from Pennsylvania..Army Lt. A group of House lawmakers, including Trump ultra-loyalists Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes, wrote Pelosi this week to complain about Honore's appointment.

Hawley blasted Honore's comments in an appearance on Carlson's show, calling them 'very disturbing' and 'downright crazy.'

He called Honore a 'dedicated partisan.'

Another Trump loyalist, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, tweeted Wednesday: 'General Honoré is an extreme partisan and should be the LAST person to head up an investigation of what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6th.'
