CDC predict there could be as few as 2,000 COVID deaths in the next three weeks as more states incentivize vaccines - down from February peak when 5,400 died in a single day

 The Centers for Disease Control is predicting that the Coronavirus death rate will fall dramatically over the next few weeks, as more states incentivize vaccinations.

In its most recent forecasts, the CDC predicted that there will be a total of 596,000 to 606,000 COVID-19 deaths in the United States by June 19.

While that may sound grim, the US has already reported a total of 594,430 deaths as of Sunday, meaning there could be as few as 2,000, or up to 12,000 more deaths in the next three weeks

It is a marked difference to the pandemic high of 5,443 deaths were recorded in just one day on February 12, 2021.

The current rolling seven-day average is 659 daily deaths, while 343 deaths were reported on Saturday.

The death rate is also declining, and should soon level out, according to the CDC's predictions

The slower death rate may be attributed to more people getting vaccinated against the virus. 

Nationwide, more than half of all American adults received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, according to the CDC, with more than 40 percent fully vaccinated.

Ten states have also already reached President Joe Biden's goal of vaccinating 70 percent of adults by July 4 with at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, administration officials announced Friday, including Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Hawaii.

Governors have also begun incentivizing the vaccines, which are now available for anybody 12 and older.

California is offering gift cards and cash prizes in its new 'Vax for the Win' program, which Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday, with a $15 million grand prize that will be split among 10 Californians who have been vaccinated.

Anyone who has already been vaccinated and those who receive a shot before the state fully reopens on June 15 will be eligible for the money.

The next 2 million residents vaccinated will be eligible for $100 million in gift cards, doled out in $50 increments as a prepaid Visa card or a grocery store gift card.

And in Minnesota, Governor Tim Walz said, 10,000 residents who get vaccinated between Memorial Day weekend and the end of June will be eligible to choose from a range of benefits — including state park passes, fishing licenses and tickets to the state fair and regional amusement parks.

'We wanted to match a program that we thought matched Minnesota,' Walz said at a news conference on Thursday. 'We think it's a great way to kick off summer

'I think especially these dealing with the outdoors was very Minnesota,' he continued. 'We do want to encourage people to get out there, we hope that these are lifelong

'This might be some people's first fishing license,' he said, but 'we hope they can buy one every year after that.'

New York, Maryland and Ohio were already offering lottery winnings to those who get vaccinated, and the United States now has 80,000 locations nationwide where people can get vaccinated.
