Afghan Interpreter seeking asylum is being deported. (3 Pics)

This is Zalmay Niazy. He was an Afghan Interpreter for U.S. Troops in Afghanistan.

He has been living in a small town in Iowa while applying for political asylum through the Special Immigrant Visa program. He worked as an Interpreter from 2007-2009 before being sent to D.C. to a work conference. He is now facing deportation because when he was 9 years old, he was forced at gun point to give bread to the Taliban or they would kill his family.

Niazy served alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan for three years during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was shot at, wounded, and had his life threatened repeatedly because of that work. Now the community is rallying together to support Zalmay who became beloved in his years that he spent living in Iowa.
