Tucker Carlson compares Biden's 'embarrassing' decision to pull out of Afghanistan to Vietnam retreat as 3,000 troops are sent back to fight Taliban takeover
Tucker Carlson has compared President Joe Biden's 'embarrassing' withdrawal from Afghanistan to the Vietnam War retreat, calling it 'the 1970s without the free speech'.
Carlson made the comments on his show Friday night after the Biden administration sent 3,000 troops back into Afghanistan to help evacuate the US Embassy in Kabul as the Taliban wreaks havoc in the region.
He compared this moment to the 'single most humiliating day in the United States abroad' when the US pulled out of Vietnam.
Biden was asked about the parallels between the two moments at a press conference and said the Afghan Security Forces were reliable.

Tucker Carlson on Friday compared President Joe Biden's 'embarrassing' withdrawal from Afghanistan to the Vietnam War retreat, calling it 'the 1970s without the free speech'
He said: 'The Taliban is not the North Vietnamese Army. They're not remotely comparable in terms of capability.
'There's going to be no circumstances where you’re going to see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy in the United States from Afghanistan.'
He was referring to the moment where citizens were clinging to a helicopter in Vietnam to escape Saigon.
Today, the US has left Afghanistan in the hands of its own people.
General Mark Milley said: 'The Afghan Security Forces have the capacity to sufficiently fight and defend their country. and we will continue to support the Afghan Security Forces when necessary.

The has gained control of almost 60 per cent of the country in the last three months since America pulled out
'The future of Afghanistan is in the hands of the Afghan people
'A negative outcome, a Taliban automatic takeover, is not a foregone conclusion,' Mark Milley said a month ago at a press conference.
Carlson pointed out that the Afghanistan government controls 15 percent of the 34 provinces, meaning the Taliban controls 85 percent.
The Council of Foreign Relations estimates the figure to be closer to 54 percent as of July 31. Months earlier, the Taliban controlled only 20 percent of the country.
The Taliban is acquiring territory at high speeds since America has begun withdrawing.

Biden was asked if the US retreat from Afghanistan would be similar to Vietnam, where citizens clung to a helicopter to get out of the country. The US Embassy is suggesting people take commercial flights to leave Afghanistan
Since America began leaving in May, the Taliban has swept control of almost half of the 421 districts in Afghanistan, Vox reported.
The Senior Analyst for the International Crisis Group’s said the Afghan government has 'kicked out or lost' more than 200 providences in the last three months.
According to the New York Times, the embassy is suggesting its citizens to leave Afghanistan immediately on commercial flights.
Kabul is expected to be taken over by the Taliban soon.
Carlson also mentioned that the Taliban have taken over American equipment that was left behind in the America's retreat.
'The Taliban now controls hundreds of millions worth of resistant vehicles, humvees, drones that the Pentagon left behind in Afghanistan, all of it now belongs to the Taliban,' said Carlson.
In July, the Taliban seized 900 guns, 30 light tactical vehicles and 20 army pickup trucks after taking over Sultan Khil military base in the Wardak province in Kabul, according to NBC. They continue to seize more equipment.
Carlson also said the US spent more $130billion on nation-building after the Pentagon employee Jim Madison and a general said Afgan National Security Forces are winning. He pointed out that the United States did not spend that much on the Marshall Plan in Europe in 1945.
The US spent $17billion (worth $257.8billion with inflation) on the Marshall Plan.
Carlson claims the money went to the 'most corrupt' people and it helped fund 'ghost soldiers' and Afghan police recruits, who raped children and took guns to set up private checkpoints to extort travelers.
In 2015, the New York Times reported US soldiers were to ignore the sexual abuse of boys by Afghan allies.
The Wall Street Journal reported in January 2017 that the US military was removing ghost soldiers from their payroll.
The ongoing situation is changing day by day in Afghanistan.
Is it any surprise to anyone with any sense that a group like the Taliban emerges in Afghanistan after all these years of foreign attacks and occupations on this nation? The Taliban are not the reason the USA or any nation would want to attack/occupy this nation. It is the other way around- the Taliban exist the way they do because of foreign interference in THEIR land. The USA had its 1776 but it won't ley any other nation have theirs!
ReplyDeleteWhen the US invaded Afghanistan their intention was to stay forever. Winning meant staying, leaving meant losing. The government and military they created was designed to support permanent occupation. They never wanted to create a regime that could stand independently. The US never wanted to get rid of the Taliban completely, the Afghan regime had to remain under constant threat to justify the US presence and ensure that the US was never asked to leave. The only reason the US is leaving is because Trump broke the Republican/Democrat bipartisan consensus to occupy Afghanistan forever. It has become politically untenable to remain in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteIs it any wonder that the Afghan army is crumbling. If you were an Afghan soldier how much confidence would you have that you would even continue to be payed after the US withdraws? Why would you risk your life to stand your ground and fight for a despised, corrupt and incompetent regime? Why not desert your post, flee the country, claim asylum and be permanently resettled in a first world country of you choice?
