Joe and Jill Biden visit wounded soldiers at Walter Reed where Marines injured in ISIS-K Kabul attack are recovering and leave press outside after Gold Star families slapped down his attempts to console them

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden went to Walter Reed Thursday night to visit wounded warriors.

The Bethesda, Maryland facility is where a number of Marines who were injured in last week's ISIS-K terror attack are recovering.

The president and first lady took a motorcade to the national military medical center and left the press outside.

However, photographers were able to capture staff unloading flowers and gift baskets as the president and first lady arrived.

The first couple stayed for an hour and 48 minutes.

White House officials wouldn't confirm whether the Bidens visited servicemembers wounded in the ISIS-K attack in Kabul, Afghanistan last Thursday.

Biden has taken heat for the United States' frenzied exit from Afghanistan after a nearly 20-year war.

The administration has been criticized for appearing flat-footed as the Taliban took control of the capital city of Kabul in mid-August, several weeks before the United States' August 31 pull-out deadline.

Images at the Hamid Karzai International Airport showed droves of people running alongside a U.S. Air Force jet trying to escape - and then several people falling off a departing military plane.

Every day after, there were reports of struggles between Americans, Afghan-Americans and the U.S.'s Afghan allies with Taliban fighters outside the airport trying to get through Taliban-controlled check-points to meet planes that were part of a massive airlift effort to get people out of the country.

Then, a week ago, the ISIS-K terror group pulled off a suicide attack outside Kabul's airport, which killed 13 U.S. service members and nearly 200 Afghans.

All the while, the president has remained steadfast in his conviction that the war should be ended.

On Sunday, the Bidens traveled to Dover, Delaware for a dignified transfer ceremony of the remains of the American war dead.

It marked the first of its kind of Biden's presidency.

Biden met with families of the deceased, with some family members telling the press that the president's words didn't help them

Biden first visited Walter Reed as commander-in-chief just nine days into his presidency, visiting with wounded troops.

He had been a patient in the facility in 1988 as a U.S. senator who was recovering from two brain aneurysms.

Walter Reed is also where Biden's son Beau - who served a tour in Iraq with the Delaware National Guard - battled the brain cancer he succumbed to in 2015.

More recently, Biden took Marine One to Walter Reed to check in on his wife, who injured her foot on a Hawaii beach. The first couple took a motorcade together back to the White House.
